Fix: “Online” Button Shows ‘File not found’ Error In FireFox and IE Browsers in Windows Vista
The ‘online’ button in the current version of DupeFree Pro has been reported to not work for some users who are running DupeFree Pro in Windows Vista with FireFox set as the system default browser although this has also been known to affect Internet Explorer as well.
When the ‘online’ button is pressed the systems default browser (when set as either FireFox or Internet Explorer) gives the error message:
File not found
Firefox can’t find the file at /C:/Program Files/DupeFree Pro/SearchResults.html.
* Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors.
* Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.
In order to fix the issue you simply need to make Windows run DFP under system administrator mode. This gives DFP the necessary permissions it needs in order for the online feature to work.
The solution below is for Windows Vista as this is the OS that has been effected the most. However, the fix should be much the same in both Windows XP & Windows 7.
To fix this problem in Vista simply do the following:
- locate the DupeFree Pro.exe file where it is installed on your PC. (the default location is: C:\Program Files\DupeFree Pro\DupeFreePro.exe)
- Right click on the DupeFreePro.exe file and click ‘Run as administrator’ on the pop-up menu.
- Click ‘allow’ if a windows warning message appears.
- You should now be able to run DFP with the online feature working.
You can also permanently set the ‘run as administrator’ mode for DFP saving you from having to run DFP in this way every time. To do this simply do the following:
- Right click on the DupeFreePro.exe file and click on ‘properties’ in the pop-up menu.
- Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab in the dialogue box.
- Under the ‘privilege level’ section select the check box next to ‘Run this program as an administrator’.
- Click ‘ok’
- Now simply run DupeFree Pro like normal and the online feature should work automatically. Note you may still have to click ‘allow’ when a windows warning message pops up each time DFP is launched.
This should fix the problem for anyone experiencing this. If you try the above and still have the problem, get in contact with me via the helpdesk email over here and I’ll help you out.
Kind regards,
Mike

I still can’t believe you guys are giving away this program for free. I love it (have been working with it for a few months now) and the support is amazing too. As long as you follow the instruction to the letter, you will get everything to work like a charm. I love the percentage change and the side by side panes functionality. Keep it up!
