I know, this is well overdue, but we are now finally(!) moving in to the development stage of DupeFree Pro version 2!

(Keep reading for the free gifts and cash prizes!

After a fair few previous announcements about this (embarrassingly stretching back quite sometime I might add!) we have now actually committed a sizeable amount of time and budget to this project.

This next version of DFP is going to be a complete rewrite (no pun intended!) and a huge improvement. The development cost will be significantly higher than any other project we have done so far and so before we embark on this we want to be absolutely sure that we actually know what it is YOU want out of DFP v2. This is extremely important because we really do not want to spend a load of time and money developing something nobody really wants!

We do, of course, have some ideas we consider to be fantastic, but that’s not enough, we need your feedback on these ideas to be sure you would like them. …So, in order to achieve this we’d like to be so bold as to ask for little bit of your time… not much, just a little…

We simply need your help by completing a really short user survey. The questions are almost all multiple choice plus you’ll even get a sneak-peek as to what may be in DFP v2!

Here’s the link to the survey:

http://tekktonix.dupefreepro2survey.sgizmo.com

The survey will literally take just a few minutes to complete and in the true fashion of Internet Marketing I’d like to offer the following glorious bribes (I mean ‘thank you’ gifts!) for completing the survey:

Free Gifts For Everyone:
======================
* Fully customisable WordPress sales page theme (contains all HTML and Photoshop files)
* Website badges graphics package (contains all PNG and Photoshop files)
(A link to 30MB download for these free gifts is provided at the end of the survey)

Cash Prize Draws:
======================
* First prize: $75 PayPal cash
* Second prize: $50 PayPal cash
* Third prize: $25 PayPal cash
(The winners will be selected at random from all valid completed surveys)

The survey is completely anonymous. However, at the end of the survey you will have the option to put your name and email in to a box to be entered for the prize draws. (Your email and name is not used for any other purpose - no marketing whatsoever)

This survey will be open until the 13th of November so please be sure to complete the survey before then.

The URL to the survey:

http://tekktonix.dupefreepro2survey.sgizmo.com

The survey is really very quick to complete and I must stress that we really do need as much feedback as possible as it will help us gauge the interest for a new and better version of DFP. If there isn’t a decent level of interest then the project may have to be abandoned so if you use DFP and want to keep it alive please do take a couple of minutes to give us your feedback if you can. It would mean a lot.

Here’s the link to the survey again:

http://tekktonix.dupefreepro2survey.sgizmo.com

Thanks for your time and for supporting and using DFP. We truly appreciate it!

I hope very soon we will be able to release a new version that really impresses you and brings you exactly what you are looking for!

If you have any questions contact me via the helpdesk email and I’ll get back to you as quickly as I can.

Kind regards,

The ‘online’ button in the current version of DupeFree Pro has been reported to not work for some users who are running DupeFree Pro in Windows Vista with FireFox set as the system default browser although this has also been known to affect Internet Explorer as well.

When the ‘online’ button is pressed the systems default browser (when set as either FireFox or Internet Explorer) gives the error message:

File not found

Firefox can’t find the file at /C:/Program Files/DupeFree Pro/SearchResults.html.
* Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors.
* Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.

In order to fix the issue you simply need to make Windows run DFP under system administrator mode. This gives DFP the necessary permissions it needs in order for the online feature to work.

The solution below is for Windows Vista as this is the OS that has been effected the most. However, the fix should be much the same in both Windows XP & Windows 7.

To fix this problem in Vista simply do the following:

locate the DupeFree Pro.exe file where it is installed on your PC. (the default location is: C:\Program Files\DupeFree Pro\DupeFreePro.exe)

Right click on the DupeFreePro.exe file and click ‘Run as administrator’ on the pop-up menu.

Click ‘allow’ if a windows warning message appears.

You should now be able to run DFP with the online feature working.

You can also permanently set the ‘run as administrator’ mode for DFP saving you from having to run DFP in this way every time. To do this simply do the following:

Right click on the DupeFreePro.exe file and click on ‘properties’ in the pop-up menu.

Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab in the dialogue box.

Under the ‘privilege level’ section select the check box next to ‘Run this program as an administrator’.

Click ‘ok’

Now simply run DupeFree Pro like normal and the online feature should work automatically. Note you may still have to click ‘allow’ when a windows warning message pops up each time DFP is launched.

This should fix the problem for anyone experiencing this. If you try the above and still have the problem, get in contact with me via the helpdesk email over here and I’ll help you out.

As with Yahoo, MSN is now also not currently working with the ‘online’ button in DFP.

Google however is still working fine and the LSI button is also operating well.

The ‘online’ check feature of DFP will occasionally stop working for a Search Engine if they suddenly change the way their SERPs are output. This change renders DFP unable to pickup their SERPS totals. We have to update DFP in order to accommodate these changes as they happen.

The current DFP update is in the works. However, it is taking a bit longer than expected because its a major overhaul. This new version will be launched with a whole new setup through our new IM software brand.

Keep your eyes peeled!

Andy Jenkins from StomperNet has just released a video revealing how duplicate content can lead to “Site Death“… a tad dramatic perhaps, however it does ring true with what we have found.

In his video Andy primarily talks about on-site duplicate content and interestingly he appears to mention that compared with off-site duplicate content the on-site dupe is far worse. This is where I personally struggle to agree.

From our experience off-site duplicate content will almost certainly make your life very hard. The long and the short of it all is that you simply need to keep all your content (off-site & on-site) as original and unique as possible while still providing value to the end reader.

Andy Jenkins seems to be very concerned about that fact that your website boilerplate text (everything that is constant from one page to the next - i.e. menus, footers, etc.) will make your website appear to have more on-site duplicate content if your content in the main content section area of some pages is particularly sparse. This would make sense, however it does start to go against what’s being said over at seomoz.org:

“Amit Kumar from Yahoo made the point that identical content in different languages won’t be detected as duplicate, and neither will “boilerplate” features, such as common site elements, navigation, legal disclaimers, etc. On the surface, these two issues seem quite obvious; however, it’s true that there really is a lot of duplicate content on any given site. Headers, footers, navigation, and sidebars usually appear on multiple pages, and although we’d never assume that the search engines are considering that duplicated, it’s good to know for sure.“

(Quote taken from here at the seomoz.org website.)

To check out Andy Jenkins ‘Destroy Duplicate Content‘ video click the pic below: (definitely worth watching)
